Champion racemare Enable has been crowned the European Cartier Horse of the Year….again.
She joins Frankel and Ouija Board as the only horses to ever win it twice.
Enable’s was a little different as she won it in 2017 and now this year.
The freakishly gifted mare, who never raced Winx even though hundreds of thousands of racing fans the world over wanted to see that happen, took all before her this year….bar of course the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe where she was 2nd.
She is a 5YO mare now, and she was bred by her owner Prince Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms.
This spectacular year of racing cemented her greatness. Enable (Nathaniel-Concentric) added three more Gr 1 successes this season with victories in the Coral-Eclipse, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes, and Darley Yorkshire Oaks
In US dollars she has earned $13,663,326 throughout her illustrious career. She has won 13 races, including the Arc twice and all up 10 x Gr 1 races.
Her pedigree is fascinating.
Her sire, Nathaniel is a grandson of Sadler’s wells, while her Gr 3 winning mother, Concentric is a daughter of Sadler’s Wells.
The other nominees for Cartier Horse of the Year in 2019 were Godolphin’s Blue Point, the other great mare, Magical, the brilliant 3YO filly Star Catcher, the superstar long-distance stayer Stradivarius, and the warhorse Waldgeist who beat her home in the Arc this year.
Stradivarius (Sea The Stars-Private Life) did win, for the 2nd time on the bounce, the Cartier Stayer Of The Year award.
Blue Point (Shamardal-Scarlett Rose) won the Cartier Sprinter Of The Year as he went through the year undefeated.
