Dance And Dance looks likely to head for the Mile at Glorious Goodwood after connections decided not to run at Newmarket this weekend.
The five-year-old finished second in the Royal Hunt Cup last time but trainer Ed Vaughan and owner Jaber Abdullah were not keen to shoulder topweight in the Bunbury Cup.
While Dance And Dance has also been handed topweight for the Mile on July 29, connections feel that race will suit him better.
“The owner just wasn’t 100 per cent about running him on Saturday,” Abdullah’s racing manager Bruce Raymond said.
“He’s in good form but Ed thought he might just have too much weight at Newmarket to go there with a winning chance.
“He also runs well fresh so Ed suggested saving him for Goodwood and although he has topweight there, that race is over a mile (1600m) and Newmarket was seven furlongs (1400m) and the next runner in the list is only 1lb (0.5kg) behind rather than 6lb (2.5kg) at Newmarket.
“We know he’s going to have that sort of weight and we will see how he gets on.”
