Gordon Elliott feels Shadow Catcher may have sneaked under the radar ahead of the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.
Trained by Michael Dodds on the level, the son of 2000 Guineas winner Haafhd changed hands for 40,000 guineas ($A65,017) at Tattersalls in October.
He won on his hurdling debut at Punchestown, beating the highly-regarded Darroun, and finished second in the Grade One Spring Juvenile Hurdle to Dermot Weld’s Hisaabaat.
“We like him a lot,” Elliott said.
“He was unlucky not to win last time, I thought. He was very keen and they didn’t go fast enough.
“That meant he found himself in front far too early and when the winner swept past he didn’t know what to do.
“We think the Triumph will be the perfect race for him because they always go flat out, and that is what he wants.
“He’s definitely going for the Triumph and we like him a lot.”
