Race 1. (14:45) Graduate School Alumni Handicap (Class 5) 2000m
2 Chilli Baba (Bet Now: $SP.00) is unknown at 2000m but he’s racing as if he’ll appreciate it. He ran over the mile here three weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up good ground and was a definite pass mark in defeat. The way he finds the line, 2000m should be no issue and is one of the hardest to beat.
1 Perfect Pairing (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks suited back up in trip. He was 2200m back to the Sha Tin mile on the dirt last time. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did close off very well despite never threatening. Blinkers on, Bowman and back to Class 5 grade, he appeals.
5 Skyey Blue (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one with upside and has improvement to come off the back of a resumption over the mile at Happy Valley. He just looked in need of the run and that’s how it panned out when midfield. Fitter and up in trip, he’s an improver at odds.
Race 2. (15:15) Chung Chi Alumni Handicap (Class 5) 1400m
5 Regency Happy Star (Bet Now: $SP.00) is in a purple patch at the moment and seems the straight bat play. Has been freshened up since a March 9 win over this track/distance, sitting on speed and found plenty under pressure to fend them off and win. Trial since was nice, he maps perfect and will be strong late.
7 So Awesome (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran second in the race mentioned above. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, nabbed late by Regency Happy Star. Looks to land on speed despite the gate and will be thereabouts.
3 Perfect Peach (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a sneaky chance at odds. He ran behind Regency Happy Star in the race mentioned above. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did find the line and was quite good in defeat. If he can get a drag into the race, he’s dangerous.
Race 3. (15:45) New Asia Alumni Handicap (Class 4) 1200m
2 Mount Everest (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good mover and no reason why he can’t make it 2/2. He debuted over this track/distance four weeks ago and was an impressive winner, getting teh beaut run off speed and finished best to score. Tick over trial was pretty good and maps ideally.
6 Pejibaye (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of Per Incanto that is on debut for Jamie Richards. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one, the latest seeing him win here last week and moved well enough to my eye. The gate is tricky but he looks to have an engine under the hood.
3 Matters Most (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran down the track behind Mount Everest last time in the race mentioned above. He had a decent enough run in transit and tried hard but just weakened late. Not sure he is good enough to win but can run top four.
Race 4. (16:15) United Alumni Handicap (Class 4) 1600m
5 Times Table (Bet Now: $SP.00) is hard to beat provided he’s within range on the turn. He ran over this track/distance two weeks ago where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line in defeat behind Master Trillion. He’ll be spotting them a start but just hoping for a drag into the race.
3 Good Luck Babe (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a model of consistency and should be around the mark. He ran over 1400m here four weeks ago. He got into a decent spot in transit and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. That said, he was close up in defeat. Maps perfect and 1600m should be fine.
6 Oriental Smoke (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran down the track in the Master Trillion race mentioned above. He landed on speed and tried hard but just couldn’t quite see it through. I think with a more patient steer in transit, he’s good enough to be a threat.
Race 5. (17:10) The Cuhk Alumni Cup (Class 4) 1200m
1 Akashvani (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a tricky draw to overcome but he does look a nice prospect for David Hayes that comes here off the back of a debut win over this track/distance four weeks ago, He led throughout from the wide gate and was very strong to the line in winning. Tick over trial last week was sharp and on debut, he showed a wide gate is fine. He’s the one to beat.
2 Flash Current (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key and only threat for mine. He ran third in the race mentioned above, and he was one of the eye catchers of the race, closing off with real purpose late in the piece in clocking the best late splits of the race. More positive ride and he can threaten.
8 Sunny Sing Spirit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a son of The Mission that is on debut. He has had extensive trial work in readines for start one, the most part looking solid enough without jumping up and down. Maps ideally and overall, this isn’t a deep race. One for exotics.
Race 6. (17:40) Shaw Alumni Handicap (Class 3) 1200m
1 Lifeline Express (Bet Now: $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He is three weeks between runs since a track/distance win, giving them a start and a beating, getting a much deserved win on the board. His confidence is up, trial since was sharp…the one to beat.
3 Geneva (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the only other winning chance. He ran second to Lifeline Express in the race mentioned above. He got back to near last in the run and worked home with real purpose late in the piece when second. Maps to settle much closer in the run and be effective late.
7 Genius Baby (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He makes his Hong Kong debut for David Hayes off the back of a debut win on the Gold Coast Poly back in June when a strong winner from off the speed. Extensive trial work, tricky draw…I think he has talent so include in wider multiples.
Race 7. (18:10) Faculty Of Education Alumni Handicap (Class 2) 1600m
5 Voyage Samurai (Bet Now: $SP.00) should get front end control and with that in mind, he’s the way I am leaning. He attempted to lead throughout over this track/distance three weeks ago and gave a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through when second to Sunlight Power. Hopefully a soft time of it in front and he’ll take running down.
1 Helene Feeling (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back to the mile after racing over 1800m here four weeks ago. He got off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat when third to Bundle Award. Back in trip should be fine, he’ll be storng late, he can win.
2 The Golden Scenery (Bet Now: $SP.00) ran down the track in the Sunlight Power race mentioned above. He got back off the speed and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line in defeat. Maps to settle much closer in the run and does get Bowman aboard.
Race 8. (18:40) Morningside Alumni Handicap (Class 4) 1400m
5 Autumn Vibes (Bet Now: $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m for Jamie Richards after racing over 1200m here last time out when off speed and kept chasing with purpose in a good effort in defeat behind Mount Everest. The rise in trip looks ideal and gets Zac on.
9 Mr Cool (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be better for the debut, which came over 1200m here. He worked to the line well enough in defeat when third to Tactical Command. The draw is tricky but 1400m suits and overall, this isn’t a deep contest.
3 Fun Together (Bet Now: $SP.00) will press forward and run a positive race. He ran down the track here three weeks back when ridden with intent and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. Will press forward and only run well at a likely decent price.
Race 9. (19:15) SH Ho & Cw Chu Alumni Handicap (Class 3) 1400m
1 The Boom Box (Bet Now: $SP.00) should be taking care of these, all things being equal. He ran over this track/distance four weeks ago when trying to make it 4/4 to start his career, but just got a fraction too far back but was good late when a close up third. Zac on, can settle closer…good luck beating him.
8 Igor Stravinsky (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one of the more fascinating runners on the card. Former Coolmore horse that makes his Hong Kong debut for Tony Cruz. He won two of four in Ireland and looked very progressive. Extensive trial wotk to get ready, he’s a yard/market watch.
4 Silo (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a handy animal for Mark Newnham that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Jan 5 over the mile here, I dare say with eyes on the Derby, but didn’t fire and was spelled soon after. Recent Happy Valley trial was good, he’ll be strong late and can certainly threaten.
Race 10. (19:50) Wu Yee Sun & Lee Woo Song Alumni Handicap (Class 3) 1600m
9 Sky Jewellery (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like he will eat up the mile and all things being equal, he’s the winner. He ran over 1400m here last time out and was a real eye catcher, working home with real purpose late when second to Hong Lok Golf. Tick over trial last week was strong, Bowman sticks, 1600m is fine…clearly the one to beat.
7 Ching (Bet Now: $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1600m will suit. He ran over 1400m here three weeks ago where he got a fair way off the speed but I did like the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Juneau Pride. He was several weeks between runs there so with room for upside/improvement, he’ll run a positive race.
3 Star Mac (Bet Now: $SP.00) steps back up in trip after being 1800m to 1400m here last time. He got a fair way back but was good late in the piece behind Endeared. Back up in trip, can settle closer and be effective late. Must for exotics.
