Race 1. (22:50) Coral Handicap 1991m
5 Perfuse (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks the one to beat for Sir Michael Stoute. This three year old comes back to 2000m from 2400m when contesting the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot where he was clearly the best of those on speed and stuck on well in defeat when fifth to Desert Hero. He does have an eight length win on wet ground from three runs back so the wet ground here should be fine and back in trip is a big tick.
10 Promoter (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a key chance. Far from disgraced two back at Chester over 1500m before going to 2000m at Epsom Downs and battled away gamely in defeat despite having every chance behind Torito. He has that 2000m run under the belt, which should hold him in good stead for this.
12 Alsakib (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a three start career. He has won his past two, the latest coming at Windsor just over a month ago when knuckling down strongly and in a driving finish, he just got the job done. He’s heading in the right direction and I don’t see 2000m being an issue. Definite winning chance.
Race 2. (23:25) Richmond Stakes 1207m
11 Vandeek (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the one with the big price tag being a $1.3 Million purchase. He did plenty wrong on debut down the straight at Nottingham but once he balanced up, gee he went through his gears like a nice horse and was impressive. He will take good improvement off that and provided the shifty track is fine, could be a case of good luck beating him.
8 Sketch (Bet Now: $SP.00) commands some level of respect. He was somewhat unwanted in betting when on debut at Newbury but gee the manner in which he put them away when clicked up by Marquand was impressive and won by a space in solid time. Jumps straight to Stakes grade and given the lack of overall depth, he’s a main danger.
4 Bobsleigh (Bet Now: $SP.00) is one to include in wider exotics. Far from disgraced two back in the Coventry at Royal Ascot before going to the Super Sprint at Newbury when a bit on the plain side behind Relief Rally but he was 1200m back to 1000m so back up to 1200m, he can bounce back and run an improved race.
Race 3. (00:00) Gordon Stakes 2412m
6 Espionage (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks a good horse for Aidan O’Brien. Narrow second at Group l level at Saint Cloud to end his 2YO season. He resumed in a Listed race at Roscommon where he looked a good thing on paper and duly saluted, proving quite strong to the line in an impressive return. He’ll love the 2400m of Goodwood, and on testing ground, he’s clearly the one to beat.
4 Chesspiece (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the key and I think only threat to Espionage. He ran a beauty in defeat two back at Royal Ascot behind Gregory before going to the Glasgow at Hamilton where he looked a moral on paper and duly saluted in the field of five, winning quite comfortably. He’s the one with hard fitness/experience under the belt and is dangerous.
3 Canberra Legend (Bet Now: $SP.00) is heading towards the Melbourne Cup ala stablemate Deauville Legend last year, who did use this race as a lead up. Canberra Legend comes through the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot where he ran a much improved race behind Waipiro after a plain effort at York. Not sure he’s good enough to win but can pinch a first four spot.
Race 4. (00:35) Nassau Stakes 1991m
IMO, I think it could easily be a case of how far 4 Blue Rose Cen (Bet Now: $SP.00). She has done all her racing in France, but her last start French Oaks triumph was just so damn arrogant, the manner in which she went through her gears and how strong she was…wow. Back in trip no issue and if she handles the trip over and the occasion, I think it’ll be good luck beating her and my recommendation would be having something small on her each way for the Arc because if she wins here, which I think she will, her price will be hammered in.
3 Nashwa (Bet Now: $SP.00) is the threat, if any. Team Gosden trained filly that comes to Goodwood off the back of an arrogant Group l win in the Falmouth at Newmarket where she had the suck run in behind the speed before Hollie Doyle clicked her up and gee she raced away to win well. Good test here against a star, but she has claims to being a star in her own right.
1 Above The Curve (Bet Now: $SP.00) loves getting her feet wet and that is her saving grace if she wants to be competitive next to the first two. She was game in defeat last time in the Pretty Polly at Curragh when third to Via Sistina, beaten several lengths but far from disgraced. As I said, doubt she wins, but with wet ground on the cards, she can run third or fourth.
Race 5. (01:10) Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery 1408m
12 Gray’s Inn (Bet Now: $SP.00) looks very hard to beat here. Progressive filly that was a strong winner two back at Chester before going to a Listed race last week at Sandown when far from disgraced in defeat when beaten just under four lengths by Shuwari. Back to a Nursery from Listed race, 1400m lead ups under the belt, it all points to her taking this out.
7 Lincoln Legacy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly with decent talent. There was a bit of quality about her debut win at Kempton Park before going onto the turf at Windsor and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind Pink Satin. Racing like a rise to 1400m will suit and has good upside to come compared to some here who do look tired.
I doubt 1 Balon D’Or (Bet Now: $SP.00) wins but he can pinch a first four spot. His recent runs have come at Stakes level and has run okay but hasn’t quite measured up. This looks more within his reach and does have a good record on wet ground. If the 1400m is okay, I think he’ll be around the mark.
Race 6. (01:45) Buccellati Handicap 1609m
16 Naval Academy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at odds. Three year old gelding that started his career in France and now comes to the UK. Ended his life in France on a high when a dominant on speed winner over the mile at Angers in a maiden. First up at the mile, to me, signals intent, and has run well on wet ground previously. Drawn out, progressive, he’ll do me each way.
7 Novus (Bet Now: $SP.00) is on the quick back up after racing on Tuesday at this track/distance when sticking on strongly in defeat and did look the winner for a few strides but had to settle for a second to Choisya. Quick back up on wet ground is usually gold. Not really known in the UK for backing up but I am respecting here in what is a very winnable race.
2 Metal Merchant (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. Bit on the plain side two back at Royal Ascot in the Britannia before going to Ascot again a few weeks ago and ran a much improved race when third to Good Gracious, beaten just over three lengths. He does have a liking for wet ground and off last start, that is good enough to be around the mark here.
Race 7. (02:20) Tatler Maiden 1408m
Open maiden and not a great deal of confidence but leaning towards 5 Get Jiggy With It (Bet Now: $SP.00). She is well bred and well related to some nice types. She ran up to that pedigree on debut at Newmarket when second to Race The Wind, defying the $12 SP in a tidy effort in a field of seven. Now gets Frankie to steer and is bred to appreciate the wet ground. Think she’s the straight bat option.
10 Ornellaia (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a $520,000 yearling purchase that is another with good pedigree. She was kept safe in betting when debuting over 1200m at Newmarket where she was very raw and new to the racing caper but kept finding the line in a solid debut, running third to Sacred Angel. Fitter and up to 1400m, has the run under the belt, she clearly appeals.
12 Shadan Joy (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a definite winning chance. She has finished runner up in both career outings, the latest coming over 1496m at Beverley in a field of four where the tempo was an absolute crawl and she just didn’t have the speed in the legs to win. More genuine tempo this time around, she can bounce back for sure and get a win on the board.
Race 8. (02:55) World Pool Handicap 1005m
Bit of a bludger of a race to close out the meeting but leaning the way of 3 Jm Jungle (Bet Now: $SP.00). He comes here off the back of a strong win at Haydock where he got into a nice spot just off the speed before being presented and loomed, taking the lead close to home and was strong to the line in winning. Has run well on wet ground previously and off a win, is hard to beat.
10 Holkham Bay (Bet Now: $SP.00) has done little wrong in a three start career. He did well in his opening two runs on Synthetic before being spelled. He had a year off prior to resuming a few weeks ago at Doncaster when trying his guts out but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece behind Swiss Star. Form out of that race has been franked and with good upside, appeals.
8 Another Baar (Bet Now: $SP.00) is an improver at odds. Stuck to the task gamely in defeat two back at Newmarket over this trip before going to 1200m a week later at Hamilton and just found the seven day back up, along with 1200m, too tough of an ask. Much better set up this time and back to 1000m is a big tick. Dangerous at odds.
