Glorious Goodwood continues on Thursday night, with the feature race being the Group l Nassau Stakes (2177m) for the Fillies & Mares.
Race 1. (22:50) Kincsem Handicap 1990m
8 Patient Dream (Bet Now: $5.50) gets the nod for me in the opener. 2/3 this time in, winning fresh at Epsom. Solid fourth next time out before going to Windsor and he was impressive. Flying this time in and I think he only has to hold his form to be around the mark again.
4 Alfaadhel (Bet Now: $6.00) can bounce back. Put together a couple of sharp wins before going to Royal Ascot where he was beaten and on paper, a fair way, but the run had more merit. Proven on wet ground and stable do have good success at this Carnival so he commands respect.
3 Qaader (Bet Now: $10.00) is an interesting runner. I thought he was very good in defeat at Royal Ascot. Last time out at Newmarket, he seemed to get a decent enough run in transit but failed to finish it off. His best is certainly good enough to figure in the finish.
Race 2. (23:25) Richmond Stakes 1207m
1 Perfect Power (Bet Now: $5.50) comes here with fresh legs after taking out the Norfolk during Royal Ascot. He was building up to a decent race win and he got it. See no reason why he can’t go on with it despite some good depth to this line up.
2 Asymmetric (Bet Now: $3.40) comes here with the strong recent with a couple of impressive efforts at Newmarket, the latest a close up placing at Group level. I think he only has to hold his form to go close. Just depends if there is any left in the tank.
5 Gis A Sub (Bet Now: $14.00) lacks the class of some of these at this stage of his career but he looks to have enormous upside. Arguably should have won at York on debut before going to Pontrefact and getting the job done. He’s got more to come and is a knockout chance.
Race 3. (00:00) Gordon Stakes 2412m
Given there are lightly raced three year olds engaged here, there could be a sneaky Melbourne Cup aspirant among this lot. OTI has 5 Ottoman Emperor (Bet Now: $9.00) engaged and while this is clearly his hardest test to date, I think he’s up to it. Made it three on the bounce when bolting up at Navan over 2200m. The rise in trip looks ideal and a win here could well book him a ticket to Melbourne.
1 Yibir (Bet Now: $6.00) is a three year old gelding similar to Kemari, his stablemate. Not eligible for the St Leger later in the year so is another that could be on the radar. He was a dominant winner at Newmarket last time out and I think he only has to hold his form to be around the mark.
2 Youth Spirit (Bet Now: $12.00) certainly has the right form lines to run a much improved race. Strong winner on wet ground two back in the Chester Vase. Then went to the Derby when far from disgraced. That form is A1 and for mine, he is a definite knockout hope against these.
Race 4. (00:35) Nassau Stakes 1990m
Frankie steering 3 Empress Josephine (Bet Now: $9.00) interests me and at around double figures, I can entertain her. Brilliant finale to win the Irish 1000 Guineas. Then went to the Coronation and didn’t really fire. Back to a small field from gate one, I think she will run a much improved race.
4 Joan Of Arc (Bet Now: $2.90) is a stablemate of Empress Josephine that is a proven performer at this level. Just missed in the Irish 1000 Guineas before going to France, stepping up in trip and she bolted in. Ryan Moore steers and she should take a power of beating.
6 Zeyaadah (Bet Now: $11.00) is a progressive filly for Roger Varian that is heading in the right direction. Like most, finished down the track in the Oaks behind Snowfall. Then went to Newcastle where she found a relatively thin Group lll and got the job done. Not sure she wins, but a definite first four threat.
Race 5. (01:10) Goodwood Racecourse Patrons Nursery 1408m
2 Adjuvant (Bet Now: $3.75) looks a very much progressive youngster for the Bell camp that has looked very raw and new to the racing caper but has still managed to get the job done in good style. There is more to come from him so he’s the way to go for me.
3 Ardbraccan (Bet Now: $6.00) is another with good upside. Getting better and better with each run and that was seen when winning his maiden at Newmarket a tick under three weeks ago. If this becomes a testing mile, he will be one of the strongest late.
4 Aswan (Bet Now: $9.00) is a Team Crisford trained colt that has done little wrong in his short career to date. Only problem is that he’s not winning. Did a bit wrong last start at Epsom, but overall, I thought he had his chance. Not sure I could back him to win but is one for multiples.
Race 6. (01:45) Tatler Ebf Maiden Fillies' Stakes 1408m
18 Wilderness Girl (Bet Now: $3.25) is on top for me. Debuted a tick under three weeks ago at Newmarket and worked to the line pretty well when fourth to Ardbraccan, who goes around in the previous, so by the time this race comes around, you’ll know how strong the form is, but I think she’s progressive and has plenty more to come.
5 Helene (Bet Now: $6.00) has done little wrong in her career to date. Two starts for two placings, both coming over the six furlongs at Newbury, where she has had her chance but her runs have been solid. Overall, this isn’t a strong race, so she only has to hold her form to take beating.
14 Silverdale (Bet Now: $12.00) is one I’d rate as a knockout chance. Debuted a few weeks ago at Newbury where she looked like she would improve with the run under the belt when fourth. She should have plenty of upside to come and drawn inside, should get a soft run off the speed.
Race 7. (02:20) World Pool Handicap 1005m
2 Twilight Calls (Bet Now: $3.00) gets the nod in the get out. Up and coming sprinting colt that was a strong winner three weeks ago at Newmarket, and won with something in reserve to the eye. This is a good test for him here, but I think he is more than capable of measuring up.
If the rain comes, 8 Showalong (Bet Now: $7.00) just about becomes the one to beat. Forget he went around at Ayr last time out when drawing poorly. Rain comes, he’s a bet. If it doesn’t, he could be a risk.
14 Fantasy Maker (Bet Now: $11.00) is the knockout chance. Ran a beauty two back at Royal Ascot. Then went to Sandown when stepping up in trip and failing to see out the distance. Better suited back in trip and can win without surprising I feel.
