Race 1. (14:30) Pakistan Star Griffin Plate 1200m
1 Quick Money (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) does seem the straight bat play. This son of Land Force has done little wrong in two career outings, the latest run being a win three weeks ago where he looked a good thing on paper and despite a few nervous moments in the run, he was too good. 1200m should be fine and is one of the hardest to beat.
8 Babieca (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key threat. He ran second to Quick Money in the race mentioned above. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent kick from the front but had no answers late for Quick Money. 1200m should be fine and I think he’ll be better ridden with a sit.
4 Light Years Glory (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Advertise that is on debut. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one and hasn’t been too bad each time he has stepped out, the latest trial seeing him at Conghua and was solid enough I thought. One for exotics.
Race 2. (15:00) Viva Pataca Hcp (C4) 1200m
4 Beauty Missile (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks an each way gamble for mine. He is several weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance where he got back to near last in the run and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat I thought behind Goldentronicmighty. Tick over trial last Friday was strong, he’ll get good cover and launch late.
8 No Other Choice (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Shamus Award that is on debut for Casper Fownes. He has had extensive trial work in readiness for start one, the latest piece of work seeing him run fourth at Conghua and moved well enough to my eye. The gate is tricky but he looks talented.
1 Hong Kong Hall (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) resumes for David Hall and I’d say is one to be watched from a yard/market perspective. He hasn’t raced since Feb 26 at Happy Valley when just off the speed and failed to fire behind Red Elegance. Given a good break and his trial work has been encouraging so watch betting.
Race 3. (15:30) Makarpura Star Hcp (C4) 1200m
6 Copartner Fleet (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) can make a winning debut here. Son of Nicconi that is having start one off the back of several trials, the latest seeing him win at Happy Valley and moved well enough to win I thought. Tricky gate to overcome, but does get Zac to ride at start one, which is a good lead.
9 Honest Witness (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is working up to a win for David Hayes. His latest run was April 13 over this track/distance when seemingly having his chance but battled away really well in defeat behind Ahren. Tick over trial was sharp and this isn’t a deep contest.
10 Loveisintheair (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is having his first look at Sha Tin but I think he’ll appreciate the bigger track vs Happy Valley, where he has raced in all four career outings. The latest came over 1200m where he got back in the run but was good late in the piece behind Telecom Power. J Mac on, he commands respect.
Race 4. (16:00) River Verdon Hcp (C2) 1400m
1 Packing Hermod (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a good horse and I think he can resume a winner. He hasn’t raced since March 23 when a strong track/distance winner after getting a beaut run just off the speed. Unbeaten fresh and his trial work to get ready for the return has been sharp. Keen to see how he goes.
7 Mickley (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over the mile here when seemingly having his chance but just lacked the finale to go with them late in the piece behind Hong Lok Golf. Back to 1400m I do like and he has a kind map in his corner.
3 The Golden Scenery (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran down the track in the Hong Lok Golf race mentioned above. He got off speed and seemed to have his chance but was a bit on the plain side late. Not sure he is a horse I could back to win here but can run first four.
Race 5. (16:30) Russian Emperor Hcp (C4) 1400m
5 Big Stride (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth a throw at the stumps. Mark Newnham trained three year old that debuted over 1200m at Happy Valley where he got too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and wasn’t too bad in defeat. Like him up in trip, on the bigger track, he can win for sure.
6 Ka Ying Glory (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner for David Hayes. He hasn’t raced since his debut back on March 30 when near the speed and failed to come on, finishing down the track behind Jumbo Treasure. Extensive tick over trial work since and good lead that Zac sticks.
3 Super Love (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is dangerous. He ran over this track/distance four weeks back where he got a mile out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, his finale was more than sound. If he can settle closer, be within range, he can take this out.
Race 6. (17:00) Helene Super Star Hcp (C4) 1600m
5 Fortune Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has found winning form and he can go on with it. That win came three weeks ago at this track/distance when off speed before being presented wider, clear air, and let down with purpose late to win and win well. Zac takes over, he’s in form, the one to beat.
7 Wrote A New Page (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran second to Fortune Boy in the race mentioned above. He got back off the speed as well and worked home with purpose late but just found one better. If he can settle closer, which he is capable of, he can threaten.
1 Flagship Warrior (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Casper Fownes trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Jan 22 at Happy Valley when off sped and failed to get involved behind View Of The World. Fresh at the mile I find interesting and he has trialled well. Watch betting.
Race 7. (17:40) Exultant Hcp (C4) 1400m
3 Shamus Storm (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks ready to win and am quite keen on his chances. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when off speed and worked home with purpose late in the piece when a narrow second to Ka Ying Superb. Better for the run, can settle much closer in the run, he will take a power of beating.
4 Max Que (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key threat. He ran second in a 1400m race here three weeks ago at the same meeting mentioned above. The overall time was four lengths faster than that of the Shamus Storm race, so a big tick in that regard for this guy. Just not sure what upside there is vs Shamus Storm.
10 Galvanic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a hard horse to catch but his best is good enough to be a threat. He ran a few weeks back at Happy Valley over 1200m when off speed and just whacked in the run to the line. I do like him at Sha Tin and maps to do no work in the run.
Race 8. (18:10) Champions & Chater Cup 2400m
1 Voyage Bubble (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is unknown at 2400m, but I do feel he is the best horse in the race and I’ll bank on that class getting him home. He hasn’t raced since the Champions Mile where he was on speed and was there to put the race away but he couldn’t quite get there when a narrow second to Red Lion. If he runs the 2400m, I think he wins.
2 Dubai Honour (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the proven big time 2400m performer. He comes through the Queen Elizabeth at Randwick where he tried his guts out but was just no match for Via Sistina. He’ll love 2400m and any drop of rain will help his cause big time.
4 Ensued (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran fourth in the QEll Cup here last time out. He got into a decent spot off the speed and he tried hard but just lacked the class to go with them late in the piece. I think 2400m is okay for him and Zac takes over.
Race 9. (18:45) Indigenous Hcp (C3) 1000m
3 Dream Winner (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the good thing on the program for mine. Frankie Lor trained gelding that bolted up at this track/distance on April 13, giving them a start and a beating, producing a brilliant finale from off the speed to score. Tick over trial was strong, he loves this track/distance…keen.
9 Metro Power (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an interesting runner. He makes his Hong Kong debut for David Hayes after two runs in Victoria to start his career back in the Spring where he placed each time. He has looked strong in trial work to get ready for the debut here so watch betting.
8 Lucky Twin Stars (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since resuming over 1200m here. He got back off the speed and kept chasing in a decent enough effort I thought. Back to a fast run 1000m, he’ll get back but be strong at the end.
Race 10. (19:20) Vengeance Of Rain Hcp (C3) 2000m
3 Family Jewel (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. Three weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance. He got a fair way out of his ground and IMO it wasn’t the best of steers by Bowman when a close up fourth where I could argue he goes close to winning with a half decent steer. Tricky draw, but off last run, he takes beating.
2 Fallon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is flying for Tony Cruz and has to be respected. He has been kept on ice since winning over 1800m at Happy Valley on April 23 where he got a beaut sit in behind before angling clear and knuckled down with purpose to win and win well. Tick over trial was strong and for mine, 2000m is no issue.
5 Agenda (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran sixth in the same race that Family Jewel contested. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat, he did make up headway and was pretty good in defeat I thought. Maps to settle handy and be effective late.
Race 11. (19:55) Oriental Express Hcp (C3) 1400m
4 Pope Cody (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is getting better with racing and I think he can take the get out. He didn’t have much luck at his Hong Kong debut before going to the track/distance again three weeks ago and was good late in defeat when fourth. Tricky draw but if he can overcome it, he can take this out.
7 South Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is progressive and heading in the right direction. He has won two on the bounce for Frankie Lor, his latest run coming on April 20 at this track/distance when knuckling down strongly from off the speed to beat another nice horse, Juneau Pride. Tick over trial was strong, he commands respect.
13 King Of Dubai (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has had a couple of runs at 1200m this prep and is racing like 1400m suits. Latest run was three weeks back behind Crossborderpegasus where he was near the speed and fought hard but couldn’t quite get there. I think with a more patient steer, he’s effective at a price.
