Group l racing returns to Ascot on Saturday night, where the feature race is the King George Vl (2400m).
Race 1. (22:15) Pat Eddery Stakes 1400m
The safe option looks to be 5 Cachet (Bet Now: $3.90 TOP ODDS), who has done little wrong in three career outings and gets a significant jockey upgrade with Ryan Moore taking Uber from Nicola Currie. Far from disgraced two back here in the Albany before going to Newmarket where she looked the winner for a few strides but was nabbed late when third. Hard to beat here I’d suggest.
4 New Science (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) has the Point Lonsdale form, with that horse looking a potential star IMO, so I think that does read quite well. Strong debut win at Yarmouth prior to contesting the Chesham here where he was far from disgraced on testing ground behind the O’Brien colt. Has to be respected.
2 Like A Lion (Bet Now: $17.00 TOP ODDS) rises a bit in grade/depth but has a decent run under the belt and has upside. Resumed over 1400m at Salisbury and although the overall time was plain, he was strong to the line and through it in winning. Needs to improve, but no reason to suggest he won’t.
Race 2. (22:50) Keeneland Stakes 1200m
4 Desert Dreamer (Bet Now: $3.40 TOP ODDS) has been up a while but continues to race at a really good level. Just a tad outclassed I thought in the Queen Mary. Then has raced at Newmarket her past couple and each time has hit the line strongly. Deserves a decent race win and she gets her chance here.
10 System (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) is lightly raced with good upside to come and commands respect. She won at Newmarket down the straight back in late June, beating Desert Dreamer, albeit she did find the A1 ground, which was the outside fence. But she’s a filly heading places and will be strong late.
3 Delmona (Bet Now: $9.50 TOP ODDS) could be dangerous here at odds. Two back was close up behind System in the Newmarket race mentioned above. Then went to Newbury when back in trip and was good late from off the speed. Back up in trip, she is a knockout chance IMO.
Race 3. (23:25) Porsche Handicap 1600m
3 Fantastic Fox (Bet Now: $3.70 TOP ODDS) on top. Impressive maiden winner two back before stepping up in trip at Royal Ascot and he just didn’t run the trip out, so forgive and forget that run. His prior form has subsequent Stakes winning form around it so it reads very well for this.
2 Latest Generation (Bet Now: $5.00 TOP ODDS) is a Team Crisford trained galloper that is a quirky one but his recent racing has seen him relax much better in the race. Has placed his past couple, the latest at Newmarket when close up behind Royal Fleet. Bursting to win another race and is hard to beat here I’d suggest.
6 Guru (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) has the talent to measure up here. Team Gosden galloper that resumed at this track with blinkers on first time and that gear change worked because he ran a super race when a narrow second to Isla Kai. With natural improvement off that, he’s a leading chance.
Race 4. (00:00) International Stakes 1400m
1 Motakhayyel (Bet Now: $5.50 TOP ODDS) on top. Proven performer on a number of occasions at this level and comes here in winning form after getting the job done at Newmarket in the Bunbury Cup. Is a winner at this track and I think drawn out is a definite advantage here.
2 Danyah (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) comes here with fresh legs, several weeks between runs since racing at Royal Ascot when a strong second in the Buckingham Palace at this track/distance. He does tend to race best with fresh legs so the break between runs is no issue and has strong form.
22 Starshiba (Bet Now: $20.00 TOP ODDS) gets Winkers first time so I think at a big price, he’s in with a shout. Ran over the mile at Salisbury last time out and just didn’t run the trip out, so be forgiving of that run. Much better suited at 1400m and his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 5. (00:35) King George Vl Stakes 2400m
Ripping and intriguing edition. I’ll go with the new blood of the Derby winner, 5 Adayar (Bet Now: $3.75 TOP ODDS). He really burst onto the scene at Eposm, making a mess of his rivals in testing conditions and won like a star. He will need to be a star to win here, but I think he can win.
3 Love (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS) is a gun mare for Aidan O’Brien that comes here off the back of a brilliant returning win in the Prince Of Wales. She was there to be run down but found plenty when required and fought them off strongly to get the job done. She’s the one they have to beat.
Great test here for 4 Wonderful Tonight (Bet Now: $7.50 TOP ODDS) and he is a horse I have pegged down as one that would measure up in the Melbourne Cup. Very progressive galloper that clearly faces his toughest test to date but he was a dominant winner of the Hardwicke when beating Broome. If the rain arrives, he comes right into play.
Race 6. (01:10) Sebastian's Action Trust Handicap 2400m
Does look a race in two. I’m leaning towards 4 Southern Voyage (Bet Now: $3.75 TOP ODDS). Several weeks between runs since racing over 2200m at Redcar. Loved the way he knuckled down when asked, and off that win, the rise in trip is no issue. Happy to be in his corner.
3 Camelot Tales (Bet Now: $2.50 TOP ODDS) is the other key winning hopes. Tick under three weeks between runs for this Team Crisford galloper since winning at Ayr. The win had merit to it given he was tardy away and spotted them a start. Got more to come and gets Buick to steer.
If this becomes survival of the fittest, 2 Zuba (Bet Now: $12.00 TOP ODDS) is in the mix. He returns to the flat after a hurdle run at Worcester. He struggled and didn’t fire. His form is more exposed than others, but his best is good enough to be around the mark as a first four threat.
Race 7. (01:45) Longines Handicap 1400m
Tricky race to close out the meeting but the safe option is 10 Zlatan (Bet Now: $4.20 TOP ODDS). Really liked the way he knuckled down to win two back at Sandown. He then backed up a week later at Chester and stuck to the task gamely when placing. He’s in a purple patch and should go close.
2 Crack Regiment (Bet Now: $3.75 TOP ODDS) is the interesting one. Comes here as a last start winner, getting the done impressively at Newcastle on the Synthetic, with Synthetic tracks being where he has raced recently. Can he translate that solid form to the turf? Perhaps he can.
7 Carnival Zain (Bet Now: $9.00 TOP ODDS) can add value to multiples. First run for Mickey Hammond came at York over 1700m where he was solid late without threatening, making up ground. Has got upside to come…not sure I could back him to win, but is one for wider exotics.
