A bumper ten event card has been set down for Sha Tin on Sunday, headlined by the Hong Kong Derby (2000m).

Race 1. (16:00) Luger Hcp (C4) 1600m
6 Flying Boom (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a track/distance win, giving them a start and a beating, knuckling down with purpose late to just get there. He’s found winning form and he can certainly go on with it.
1 Robot Star (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has been given a mini freshen up since Feb 1. He got into a decent spot in transit and was there to win but had to settle for a narrow second in a driving finish. Tick over trial was pretty good and he gets Zac aboard. Rates highly.
4 The Absolute (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since racing over 1400m here. He got a fair way out of his ground and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good late. Maps to settle much closer and the extra 200m should be fine.
Race 2. (16:30) Ping Hai Star Hcp (C4) 1200m
Hard to get away from 1 Baby Sakura (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) after a dominant maiden win at this track/distance, spanking them in an electrifying debut. Tick over trial was sharp, he looks a nice horse and strikes a very winnable Class 4 for mine.
9 Prestige Hall (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He was runner up at this track/distance on Feb 19, settling off speed and coming with a well timed run but just couldn’t quite get there. Gets Purton to steer and seemingly has a kind map in his corner.
5 Real Gentleman (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) hasn’t set the world on fire this time in but I do think he has shown signs of life previously to not entirely dismiss him. He ran over this track/distance three weeks back where he got a fair way out of his ground and just whacked. One for exotics.
Race 3. (17:00) Furore Hcp (C3) 1200m
If they are five years old and only had two starts for a win and a second, they must be pretty good. That is why I like 9 Circuit Champion (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) because you don’t persist with a horse that long unless they have shown something at home. He has shown it in two runs, looking well above average, and did look sharp in a recent trial win. Keen on his prospects.
6 Lifeline Express (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door. He ran four weeks ago at this track/distance when off speed and worked home with purpose when second. Maps to get a suck run in transit and be effective at the end. Key threat.
3 Young Emperor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran fourth to Cool Boy four weeks back at this track/distance. He got back to near last in the run and was good late without threatening. Think he becomes dangerous if he can settle closer in the run.
Race 4. (17:30) Sky Darci Hcp (C4) 1200m
4 Master Lucky (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has to overcome the tricky gate but I do think he is the straight bat play. Second at this track/distance two weeks ago, getting the suck run on speed and was there to win but just couldn’t quite finish the job. If he can overcome the draw, he’s top seed in an open race.
3 Gold Patch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a track/distance placing. He landed in a decent spot and through he was entitled to finish off his race better but kind of just whacked late. Zac on, he takes beating I say.
8 Polar Patch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Tagaloa that debuts for Mark Newnham. He has had extensive trial work to get ready for start one and hasn’t been too bad to my eye. Looks to have shown enough ability to run a cheeky race here so watch betting.
Race 5. (18:00) Fay Fay Hcp (C4) 1400m
1 Aeroinvincible (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me. He won at this track/distance several weeks ago, leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win impressively. He’s found winning form, he can certainly go on with it against these.
3 Conrad Patch (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was knocking on the door to win and the win came three weeks ago over 1200m here, finding plenty when challenged to fend them off and get the maiden win. Tricky gate, but think he has to be respected.
8 Lucky Gibs (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 1400m after debuting over 1200m here. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he made up headway and was far from disgraced in defeat. Better set up here, not dismissing.
Race 6. (18:30) Werther Hcp (C3) 1200m
4 Hot Delight (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks an absolute rocket for the future. He is 2/2 to start his career, the latest win being over this track/distance on Feb 19 when leading throughout and he gave nothing else a look in to win well. Tick over trial was sharp and confident he can measure up and make it 3/3.
3 Cool Boy (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs since a track/distance win, making it three on the bounce when giving them a start and a beating. Progressive, heading in the right direction, keen to see how he goes.
2 Mickley (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is three weeks between runs since a track/distance placing. He got into a decent spot in transit and thought he was there to win but just couldn’t quite get there. Racing well and should be around the mark.
Race 7. (19:05) Hong Kong Derby 2000m
5 Invincible Ibis (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the each way play for mine. He ran second in the Classic Cup, getting off speed before getting clear air and I really liked the way he kept chasing in defeat. Maps to do no work, so 2000m should be fine, and is one of the hardest to beat.
9 Top Dragon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) steps up to 2000m after racing over the mile several weeks ago where he chased with real purpose in the straight but it was the bob of the head that split him and victory. He’s racing as if he’ll eat up 2000m, he’s a key chance.
11 Juneau Pride (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is unknown beyond 1400m so 2000m is the query but I thought his last run was good. They rode him cold and he worked home strongly when second. He should do no work in the run…a win wouldn’t totally shock.
Race 8. (19:45) Designs On Rome Hcp (C3) 1800m
10 Packing Fighter (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) each way for me. His last run was three weeks ago over 2000m here, getting off speed and seemingly had his chance but for mine, just didn’t quite run the trip out. Like him back to 1800m and a tick over trial was quite good.
5 Money Catcher (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran third in the race mentioned above, won by Gentleman Legacy. He tried to make a sustained run from off speed and loomed but couldn’t quite finish the job. He’s racing well and should be around the mark.
3 Liveandletlive (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran down the track in the same race. He attempted to lead throughout and gave a decent sight from the front but just felt the pinch late. Think back in trip helps the cause…I doubt he wins, but could pinch first four.
Race 9. (20:20) Rapper Dragon Hcp (C3) 1400m
5 Amazing Partners (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a nice horse. Son of Pierata that has won his past two, the latest being on Feb 14 at this track/distance when giving them a start and a beating. He’s clearly heading in the right direction, tick over trial was good and from the gate, can settle much closer.
2 Super Express (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) ran over this track/distance two weeks ago. He was wide no cover throughout but despite the hard run, he loomed large and looked the winner but couldn’t quite get there. Tricky draw, but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
8 M M Conrad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is first up here, having not raced since New Years Day over 1200m here when down the track, looking raw and in need of the run. Fresh at 1400m signals clear intent and his trial work has been encouraging, so watch the market.
Race 10. (20:55) Golden Sixty Hcp (C2) 1400m
7 Gorgeous Win (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is worth an each way ticket. He ran over the mile here on Feb 19 when off speed and just whacked in the run to the line, seemingly having his chance. Like him back to 1400m and maps to do no work in the run.
6 Speed Dragon (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes back to 1400m after racing over 1800m here on Feb 8. He landed in a decent spot in transit and was there to win but just had no answers for Numbers, who goes around as a Derby contender. Back to 1400m I find interesting, he’s a threat.
11 Steps Ahead (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Written By that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since Dec 23 when midfield over the mile at Happy Valley. Couple of solid trials under the belt, I’d say watch betting and see what it does.
