Blueblood colt Wodeton will stand at stud in 2026 after Coolmore and Newgate Farm announced a partnership to retire the talented son of Wootton Bassett to the Hunter Valley.
The highly regarded three-year-old will stand his first season at Newgate Farm at a service fee of $16,500 including GST.
Bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds’ John Camilleri, who will remain involved in the horse’s stud career, Wodeton was purchased by Coolmore Australia principal Tom Magnier for $1.6 million from Segenhoe Stud at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Prepared throughout his racing career by champion trainer Chris Waller, Wodeton quickly established himself as one of the leading juveniles of his generation.
After an impressive debut victory at Rosehill, he went on to finish third in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes, second in the Group 2 Todman Stakes and was narrowly denied in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, beaten just 0.2 lengths by Marhoona.
He rounded out his two-year-old season with a fourth placing in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and finished the season as the highest-rated two-year-old colt of his crop according to Timeform.
As a three-year-old, Wodeton continued to perform at the elite level, finishing runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Rose and adding placings in both the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes and Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes.
He retires having earned more than $1.35 million in prizemoney from 13 starts, recording a win and six placings.
Newgate managing director Henry Field said Wodeton was regarded as an exceptional talent from the outset.
“Chris Waller was adamant from an early stage that Wodeton was one of the best juveniles he has ever trained,” Field said.
“As a two-year-old, the stable made it clear in no uncertain terms that he simply breathed different air.
“He demolished a quality field on debut and was denied Golden Slipper glory by the narrowest possible margin. He was the highest-rated colt of his generation and came within a nose of Australian racing immortality.”
Field believes Wodeton was unlucky not to win the Golden Slipper.
“In the Golden Slipper itself, he was desperately unlucky. He was held up at a crucial stage before charging home once clear, and there is little doubt that with uninterrupted running he wins the race.”
The colt is out of the stakes-winning Exceed And Excel mare Fiera Vista and hails from the family of champion Hong Kong sprinter Silent Witness.
His arrival further strengthens Newgate’s already powerful stallion roster and provides breeders with access to one of the highest-rated colts of his generation at an attractive introductory fee.
