Two-year-old Planet Red has made a striking debut, becoming the first southern hemisphere-bred winner for Arrowfield Stud shuttle stallion Admire Mars.
Trained by the in-form Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr partnership, Planet Red produced a strong finishing burst from back in the field to win a 1200-metre two-year-old maiden at Pakenham. The gelding defeated Observer, a colt by Ghaiyyath, and the well-supported Super Seth filly Ruska Roma.
Bred for success, Planet Red was initially sold for $100,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale before being re-sold as a $260,000 Ready To Run graduate through New Zealand Bloodstock.
He is out of the Helmet mare Lucky Helmet, a half-sister to Group performer Flying Mascot and Listed winner Koala Bear, adding further pedigree depth to the promising juvenile.
Planet Red is the sixth starter in Australia from Admire Marsβ first Arrowfield-conceived crop, and the early breakthrough win signals exciting times ahead for the progeny of the Japanese Group 1-winning sire.
