Jockey Wiremu Pinn’s time in Australia has drawn to a close, with the 24-year-old rider already back in his native New Zealand.
Pinn, who notched up 18 wins in Victoria, including 11 in Melbourne, had hoped for an extension to his apprenticeship, but when his request was denied, he opted to head home.
Jockey agent Phillip Roost, who managed Pinn during his stay in Australia, confirmed the news
“His apprenticeship ran out on the 4th of January, so he’s decided to return home. He might still come back at some stage.” Roost said.
This move was partly influenced by Pinn’s partner, Tayla Mitchell, who faced hurdles obtaining a license in Australia despite her status as New Zealand’s leading apprentice.
Pinn’s return to New Zealand sees him taking rides at the Matamata meeting on Wednesday, wasting no time in getting back in the saddle.
His Australian stint, though not without its challenges, provided valuable experiences and progress in his riding career.
