The Doomben meeting was washed out after five races but not before boom country apprentice Zoe White recorded her first Saturday metropolitan winner.

The Doomben racecourse was hit by 22mm of rain in the morning and constant drizzle made the track unsafe for racing after the fifth event.

“We got away with it early on because the fields were small but we had 12 runners in race six and the senior riders felt it would have been unsafe to run,” chief steward Alan Reardon said.

“There is some surface water in the straight and we did well to get this far.”

Racing Queensland will now look to reschedule the Listed Keith Noud Quality, which was one of the races abandoned.

White showed plenty of skill to land Bring It Home Pop ($2.25) by 3/4 length to Saint Patricks Day ($5) in the Catalina Sounds Three Year Old (1050m).

She joined leading trainer Tony Gollan two months ago and has mainly been riding at the Gold Coast on Saturdays.

White rode more than 120 winners when based in Rockhampton and has overcome serious injury to head to the city.

She rode her first city class winner at Ipswich two weeks ago on Luna Fiore at a mid week metropolitan meeting but it was only the second time she had ridden in Brisbane on a Saturday.

“It is a wonderful thrill. It has taken me a while to get here but it is what I always dream of – riding winners in the city,” White said.

Trainer Darryl Hansen said Bring it Home Pop was on his way to the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) on January 13.

“He is so honest and I think he will have no problems with the 1400m in the Guineas. Zoe’s 3kgs claim helped today and I am sure she will go on to ride a lot more winners. It was great to give her a first Saturday city win.”

Earlier, trainer Peter Hulbert had a few anxious moments before his filly Cooroi Chase again proved she was a superior wet track horse in the Accors Hotels Three Year Old (1050m).

Cooroi Chase dumped jockey Tiffani Brooker behind the barriers but was unharmed and took her place in the field eventually beating Dream Kisses ($3.50) by 4 1/2 lengths.

“She just took a fright at another horse and did a quick turn unseating me but she didn’t do any harm when she jogged up the straight a little way,” Brooker said.

“She is a real wet tracker and travelled well behind them.”

Hulbert only ran Cooroi Chase as an after thought when rain when rain came on Saturday morning.

“We had her in at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday and were going to run there. But she is lengths better on a wet track,” Hulbert said.

“I will now look for another wet track with her as she could win a good race on one.”
