Five horses remained in the acceptances for Wednesday’s Wyong event that Gai Waterhouse had planned to use as an important stepping stone toward a possible Magic Millions campaign.
Waterhouse explained that she was informed the race would not proceed because two of the five acceptors were also nominated for Rosehill on Saturday, prompting Racing NSW to scrap the Wyong contest entirely.
“Perhaps Racing NSW should copy the greyhounds and have a “stand down” period for scratched runners,” she posted on X.
“There would few double noms and few scratchings. In the UK, if (a) horse is scratched because of an unfavourable barrier, the trainer is fined.”
The reshaped Rosehill race attracted sixteen nominations, among them Palmanova from the Waterhouse and Adrian Bott yard.
Palmanova, a daughter of Tassort, was a $350,000 purchase at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for Yulong and has already completed two barrier trials, delivering a win and a placing.
