The Inglis Chairman’s Sale finished on a high note with Group 1 star Amelia’s Jewel fetching $3.8 million, becoming the second most expensive mare sold on the night behind Bella Nipotina who went for $4.2million. The mare was knocked down to Tom Magnier, who added another elite broodmare to Coolmore’s ranks.
Foaled and raised by Segenhoe Stud on behalf of owner-breeder Peter Walsh, Amelia’s Jewel is by French sire Siyouni and was always expected to be a sale ring standout. Her $4 million racetrack earnings and pedigree made her a headline act.

A Group 1 winner in the Northerly Stakes, Amelia’s Jewel also broke the course record in the Group 2 MVRC Stock Stakes at Moonee Valley, defeating Pride of Jenni in one of her most memorable performances.
She’s a half-sister to stakes-winner Bosustow and comes from a family rich in European Black Type, giving her appeal well beyond her racing credentials.
Magnier also secured Tiz Invincible and Estriella for $2.8 million apiece, but Amelia’s Jewel was the crown jewel of his purchases this year.
“She needs no introduction and again, we’re delighted to get her,” said Magnier.
“We are going to send her to America to go to Justify. So that would be the plan with her.
“Justify is obviously like Wootten Basset in that he is doing it in so many places and we’re delighted with that.
“She’ll be covered to Southern Hemisphere time this year.”
Amelia’s Jewel’s dam, Bumbasina (IRE), has since produced a full sister and is currently in foal to Zoustar, ensuring this family continues to make headlines.
