Amelia Park Racing has turned to X (Twitter) platform to articulate their disappointment regarding the decision to exonerate jockey Tyler Schiller of any wrongdoing in connection to his ride in the Golden Eagle on November 4.
A board Strait Acer in the $10 million feature event two weeks ago, Schiller was involved in an incident that led to contact with the race favourite, Amelia’s Jewel, and jockey Damian Lane. This encounter nearly resulted in both Lane and Amelia’s Jewel falling in the straight.
The consequential interference visibly unsettled Lane, with the accomplished jockey expressing relief, stating, “I’m glad I came back to the jockeys’ room alive.” Unfortunately, the star mare, Amelia’s Jewel, suffered injuries as a result of the incident.
Although initially found guilty of careless riding for neglecting to cease riding and straighten his mount, Schiller received a 12-day suspension slated to commence on November 14. However, the Group 1-winning jockey appealed this decision to the Racing New South Wales Appeals panel and emerged successful. Consequently, Schiller has been granted clearance to participate in the upcoming $1 million Hunter meeting in Newcastle on Saturday. This turn of events has sparked disappointment within the racing community, as expressed by Amelia Park Racing via their social media platform.
Amelia Park Racing, a prominent breeding and racing establishment, conveyed their dissatisfaction with the verdict through their Twitter/X account on Wednesday. In their statement, they indicated that the initial penalty was perceived as lenient, underscoring their disappointment with the outcome.
“I know jockeys make mistakes but precedents need to be set, especially in these huge prizemoney races,” Amelia Park Racing said.
“Our horse had her legs taken from under her and how she is okay is a miracle.
“But we will move on, disappointed with this decision, it was light anyway.”
