Mick Price has outlined a three-race spring campaign for Warmonger, the impressive Queensland Derby winner, with the Caulfield Cup as his primary target.
Warmonger, who clinched the Queensland Derby with a remarkable 10-length victory in his last outing, will be nominated for the Melbourne Cup. However, Price expressed concerns about the horse’s readiness for the demanding 3200m race at this point in his career.
“I’m not sure he’s mature enough for the Melbourne Cup since it’s such a tough race,” the co-trainer remarked.
Price discussed the horse’s long-term prospects with Warmongerโs managing owner, OTIโs Terry Henderson, suggesting that the Melbourne Cup might not be suitable for him right now.
Despite these reservations, Warmonger will be entered for the Melbourne Cup 2024 and is currently priced at $18 with betting apps.
