Wagering turnover on the Melbourne Cup has surged 16.4 per cent year-on-year, highlighting what the Victoria Racing Club says is the race’s enduring popularity and national appeal.
According to data released by the VRC, a record $247.4 million was wagered on the Melbourne Cup, which was won by the Jamie Melham-ridden Half Yours. The figures underline the continued strength of Australia’s most famous race in attracting punters both domestically and abroad.
Melbourne Cup betting represented more than 64 per cent of total wagering turnover across the 10-race program, with $382.5 million invested across the day — marking an 11 per cent rise on the 2024 edition.
The VRC also noted significant growth across several other key metrics, including on-course attendance, broadcast audiences, digital engagement and corporate hospitality demand.
