Autumn Angel, one of the top contenders for the VRC Oaks (2500m), won’t be lining up in the Group 1 event to take place at Flemington on November 9.
Co-trainer Peter Moody unveiled that after her sterling performance in Caulfield’s Group 3 Ethereal Stakes, she’s slated for a break in the spelling paddock.
With a view to the future, the focus for Autumn Angel will be shifted towards the major staying challenges in the upcoming autumn season.
“The owners, along with myself and Katherine (Coleman), have made the decision that we’ll spell this filly rather than go on to the VRC Oaks,” Moody said.
Highlighting her stage of development, Moody pointed out the potential challenges.
“She’s probably a little bit immature to handle the rigours of an Oaks campaign, and ultimately there’s four or five Oaks races run in the autumn.
“She’s going to go to the paddock sound, happy, and healthy.”
Autumn Angel was the equal $4.50 favourite for the VRC Oaks with most Australian online bookmakers, alongside Tropical Squall.
