The Bjorn Baker stable has advised Racing NSW stewards that Stefi Magnetica has been retired from racing.
As a result, all wagering operators have been instructed to remove the mare from betting markets for Sydney Autumn Carnival feature races.
The five-year-old bows out with an impressive record, having earned $7.36 million in prizemoney from five wins and nine placings across 26 starts.
During her career, Stefi Magnetica captured two Group 1 victories along with a Group 2 success, establishing herself as one of the leading mares in training.
The media statement read:
Today we announce the retirement of dual Group 1 winner, Stefi Magnetica, her record at the top level firmly established. A mare who has meant a great deal to her trainer and ownership group, she now heads to the breeding barn with her place in the sport well and truly earned.
From the racetracks of Wellington and Orange to Eagle Farm’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap and on to Randwick’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile, she has led her ownership group on quite a journey.
“Stefi Magnetica is the most special mare I’ve ever trained – and two Group 1 wins bear that out. She was unlucky on plenty of occasions, but when it truly mattered, the Doncaster was ours, and she deserved every bit of it. An unassuming mare, she was easy and quiet in her work, but that belied her ever present toughness. She has a personality to match her ability, and those who know her well will understand exactly what we mean when we say we developed a certain fondness for her fierceness in the barn.
She’s been enormously special for the ownership group of Ridgmont, Ken Salagic, Jakob Vitek & the Curries and for me personally. Full credit to Jim Clarke, who found her – I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.” — Bjorn Baker
Stefi Magnetica will remain with her ownership group as she moves into her breeding career – a fitting next chapter for a mare whose record and character speak for themselves. We wish her and her connections every success.
