The Widden Stakes has been a happy hunting ground for the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable and they are looking for In Limbo to continue that trend at Rosehill.
Ryan won the race in 2015 with Fireworks when training in his own right and the business partners collected another when Mallory was successful four years ago.
On Saturday, In Limbo will shoot to provide them with their third in the space of a decade when she takes her place in the 1100m feature.
“She is quite well related and we’ve had a bit of luck in the Widden over the years with winners and placegetters,” Sterling Alexiou said.
“I’m sure she fits in well with the previous mould of filly that has gone there for us.”
By Hellbent out of Fastnet Rock mare Limbo Down, In Limbo is a half-sister to stakes placegetter Joviality.
After two solid barrier trial performances in December, she earned a trip to Queensland where she finished third in the Magic Millions Debut (1000m) on a heavy 9 track, making late ground from back in the field.
Alexiou reported she had done well since returning to Sydney and had taken the interstate sojourn in her stride.
“She copped the trip up there really well, has come back here, and her form (at home) says she has improved off that first-up run,” he said.
“She is a nice filly in the making. I’m sure she will be even better next time around but she is certainly going well enough at home to acquit herself well in a race like this.”
In Limbo has been marked at $7 in early markets with Tulloch Lodge’s Group placegetter The Playwright a $3.50 favourite.
Godolphin filly Tempted, an impressive winner of her only start at Warwick Farm in December and a recent trial victor, is on the second line of betting at $3.90.
