They say bad things come in 3s and top Randwick trainer Mark Newnham is certainly hoping that is the case.
Because over the past 10 days, his trio of stable miss haps have occurred.
He doesn’t want or deserve any more.
It started when his emerging sprinter BLACK MAGNUM raced in a manner the stewards thought needed investigation two weeks back.
They’ve grilled Newnham.
They’ve grilled his rider that day, Nash Rawiller.
And we should find out this week how they are thinking.
That’s a stable concern as it darkened the credibility of the team.
But wait, there’s more.
A few days ago Newnham’s stable star NAKEEA JANE broke her leg.
Well, not in the traditional sense that she needs to be put down, but a fracture has shown up.
Nakeeta Jane, already a Gr 1 winner, has sustained an injury to the near fore fetlock and will not race during the Spring Carnival. A further assessment in respect to the mare’s racing future will be conducted once the results of additional x-rays are available, but it appears it’s a hairline fracture.
As for another stable star, LANCIATO, he has been banned from racing after pulling up distressed at trackwork the other day.
He was found to have bled from both nostrils during his work and will incur a three-month embargo from racing. Accordingly, Lanciato will not race during the Spring Carnival, either.
All wagering operators are expected to remove both horses from feature race markets.
Newnham does have a runner at Hawkesbury today, ILLUMINAIRE, who is new to the stable.
Perhaps she can right the ship for the trainer.
