Itβs the end of a 40-year era.
Team McEvoy will relocate all the horses to a Ballarat stable ending 40 years at Angaston in South Australia.
In that time Tony McEvoy, then later alongside his son Calvin, rose to be the doyen of SA racing.
He and his wife Jo have had a strong connection to the McEvoy – Mitchell property known as Kildalton Park where the stables are for a long time.
Said Tony, βIt is disappointing to close the stable but it is a business decision and I respect the decision.
βIt has been a wonderful 12 years here but life is all about change and I look forward to the next chapter.β
βJo and I love the Barossa Valley but the reality is we need to find a new home in Ballarat,β said McEvoy.
The McEvoy – Mitchell team will close its SA base after the autumn carnival.
“The fantastic opportunities offered by Victorian racing with its prize money and Super VOBIS schemes are just too good to pass up,β the trainer added.
McEvoy said he would still send horses from his Ballarat base to race in SA from time to time.
