Tony McEvoy has acknowledged that his stable’s two-year-olds haven’t quite lived up to their usual standard this season, but there’s hope for a turnaround at Flemington on Saturday.
McEvoy, alongside his son and training partner Calvin, will have Excenia, a two-year-old filly, racing in the opening event at Headquarters.
Should she claim victory, Excenia could still be in the running for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on March 22.
“From the outset, she showed she’s a nice two-year-old, and that’s why she’s still in the Golden Slipper. She’s in there because we rate her highly; she’s got to come out and confirm we are correct,” McEvoy told racing.com.
Excenia won a Geelong jumpout on January 29, and McEvoy is confident in her talent.
“She has shown us really nice talent at home. She has a lovely pedigree and she’s pretty quick,” he added.
Excenia is a $14 chance for the 1000-metre race at Flemington with online betting sites.
