Injured apprentice jockey Tom Prebble has been transferred to a rehabilitation clinic as his condition remains unchanged following a spinal cord injury.
Victorian Jockeys Association chief executive Matt Hyland confirmed in a statement that Prebble has left the Austin Hospital’s spinal care unit and is now receiving care at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
“Speaking with Tom, he has advised that four weeks on from his fall, he has no feeling or sensation below the T4 level of his spine,” Hyland said.
“With the support of the outstanding team at Talbot, Tom has already learned to transfer from his wheelchair to bed, in and out of a car, and has begun working through the many challenges associated with a spinal cord injury.”
Prebble sustained the injury when he was dislodged from his mount during a race at Warrnambool on September 9.
Hyland added that surgery to stabilise the T4 fracture in Prebble’s spine was successful, and that he remains in a hard neck brace for a separate fracture pending a review in the coming days.
Prebble’s immediate goal is to be able to return home before the end of the year.
