Tim Hale has officially been appointed as the new chairman of the Australian Turf Club (ATC), stepping into the role following the departure of former chair Peter McGauran.
Hale, who joined the ATC board in 2021 and secured a second four-year term last November, brings a wealth of legal experience to the position, particularly in property law, development, and litigation. His appointment comes at a crucial time for the club as it navigates key decisions and industry debates.
Hale was notably opposed to the controversial Rosehill redevelopment proposal, which was presented to ATC members in May and sparked significant discussion within the racing community.
Speaking to The Straight, Hale described his appointment as βa great honour,β adding, βLooking forward to meeting the challenges that confront us and bringing the industry together.β
In a further leadership announcement, respected racing broadcaster and journalist Caroline Searcy, who joined the board in February 2023, has been named vice chair of the club.
