Take nothing from the performance of the smart and improving mare THREEOOD (Star Witness-Sencirclers) who sat deep all the way yet stormed home to win a good Bm 78 at Rosehill on Saturday.
But most punters weren’t happy.
Firstly, because they missed Threeood who blew from $7.10 to pay $14.50 despite a quite brilliant trial last week.
But, mainly because PLAQUETTE (Exceed and Excel-Medaglia) the $2.80 Sportsbet favourite was allowed to run.
She reared in the starting stalls banging her body against the gates prior to the running, so hard the vet wanted to have a look at her.
She was taken out, trotted for a couple of minutes and passed fit to run.
Her pattern is to drop out and come home hard.
In the searing 40 degree heat, she dropped out here too but didn’t mount any challenge late.
Threeood, who sat three wide on her outside all the way, bolted past her once they turned for home.
Last start Plaquette was beaten half a length in good time at Flemington in a Bm 80, which was the reason she attracted good money.
She certainly ran many lengths below her best costing punters a collective small fortune.
RARE EPISODE (Ferlax-Sister Phenomenon) was on speed all the way and ran a courageous 2nd just over a length behind the winner with GENERAL SOHO (Epaulette-Soho Madame) battling away in 3rd, three parts of a length further back.
Plaquette looked average lumbering home nearly 5 lengths behind the winner in 7th.
