Team Snowden Take Aim For Magic Millions
Admittedly the race was set up for him, but The Team Snowden colt Aim proved that the debut win last Wednesday was no fluke with an outstanding win over 1200m at Randwick, cementing his place as one of the leading contenders for the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast. Sitting off a fast speed, Tommy Berry shoved into the clear at the top of the straight and was far too good.
French Import Impresses At Aussie Debut
Vadiyann, a former French stayer, made his Australian debut for the WaterBott stable at Randwick over 2000m on Saturday and was a very impressive winner, sitting on a strong speed before putting the leader away, then showing good ticker late when challenged to get the job done. The stable have high hopes for the lightly raced import, with the 2020 Spring Carnival being the ultimate target.
Trainer Fighting Drug & Firearm Charges
Leading Tasmanian trainer Scott Brunton is facing charges relating to drugs and firearms. Brunton, Tasmania’s premiership winner, appeared in court in Hobart this week charged with seven offences but did not enter a plea. He has been Tasmania’s premier trainer since 2014/15 and regularly travels horses to the mainland. He is expected to appear in court again in April.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK:
Under a rock if you didn’t see the win of Masked Crusader at Caulfield on Wednesday. Gee it was electric. Put them away very quickly before being throttled down the last 50-75m, still winning by nearly four lengths and running just over 1.10 for the 1200m. He looks a beauty and is destined for better things one would assume. Also want to mention Dubai Tycoon from Bathurst on Monday. Spanked his rivals and smashed the track record in doing so.
DEBUT OF THE WEEK:
Award Winner was well fancied when debuting last Sunday at Bendigo and for the most part, she looked in trouble, but the last 100-150m, she really knuckled down, put them away and was impressive in winning in reasonable time relative to the day. What level she gets to is unknown, but she’s in the right stable.
RIDE OF THE WEEK:
Cool, calm ride from Jarrod Fry on Tea Tales at Colac. Yes, she was travelling like Black Caviar in the run, but he still had to make the right calls and he could see those in front were getting the staggers, so he saved ground nearer the inside, got the splits and away she went for what looked like a barrier trial win. Lovely steer.
