Thanks Gorgeous has taken out her biggest prize in the VRC Sprint Classic at Flemington.

Thanks Gorgeous has lived up to her consistent form with a last stride victory in a Stakes race at Flemington.

The Mark and Levi Kavanagh-trained filly took out the Listed VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) on Saturday to provide the filly with her third win of the preparation.

Under the urgings of Craig Williams, Thanks Gorgeous ($19) dived late to grab Tycoon Star ($9.50) to score by a nose with Bacash ($$31) a short-head away third.

Thanks Gorgeous had shown good form at her first campaign, which included a placing in Group company at Caulfield last August, however it took until Mornington on New Year’s Day for the filly to finally shed her maiden tag.

Since then, Thanks Gorgeous has been successful over 1100m up the straight at Flemington, has placed over the same course and trip and again been successful on Saturday.

Levi Kavanagh said the filly had done a great job for the stable and had good form, around good horses, including My Gladiola ,who was sent out the $2.30 favourite on Saturday and finished fourth.

“We thought she was a specialist at the Caulfield track early on, but she was running at 1200 metres and not quite getting there,” Kavanagh said.

“Since we’ve been running her down the straight, she has been exceptional.

“The 1100 metres is the key, she got through the ground well and it was a great ride from Craig. I would have liked him to get there a little bit earlier to keep my heart a little less pounding, but she was in front where she needed to be and that was fantastic.”

Kavanagh said he thought Thanks Gorgeous would have no concerns handling the heavy conditions on Saturday but felt there may have been others to handle the ground better.

Now some thought needs to go into whether Thanks Gorgeous is tipped out for a spell or continues her campaign which began last October.

“We have looked at going to Adelaide, but she has been to be up for a long time,” Kavanagh said.

“She’s a horse that does not like to spell down at the farm and loves being in work. She’s always happy at the stables, so we’ll see how she pulls up.”
