Victory to I Am Me in this Saturday’s Galaxy at Rosehill would realise a much bigger reward for connections than just the $580,000 winner’s cheque.
The six-year-old was on Tuesday night announced by Inglis as an entry into this year’s prestigious Chairman’s Sale, which will be held in Sydney on May 8.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare, a dual Group 2 winner who has also placed twice at Group 1 level, is already a sought-after lot being a daughter of champion stallion I Am Invincible, but Group 1 victory would significantly enhance her appeal.
I Am Me disappointed first up when 13th in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate but got her campaign back on track with a third placing in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) and the Dynamic Syndications team that race her is hopeful she can go out with a bang.
“She’s the type of horse that every owner dreams of,” Dynamic’s Watt said.
“Being a $210,000 Inglis Premier yearling that has gone on to win 11 races, be five-times Group 1 performed and amassed over $4.7 million in prizemoney so far in her stellar career, she’s been an absolute dream for everyone involved with her.
“The journey’s not over yet for us. There’s still some top-level races she will run in over the coming month or two and as an ownership group we feel winning the $5 million The Quokka would be the perfect way to cap off what’s already been an incredible story.”
The 1200m The Quokka will be run in Perth on April 26, less than two weeks before the Chairman’s Sale.
I Am Me has drawn the inside alley in the 1100m Galaxy, a handicap in which she had 57.5kg with Nash Rawiller to ride.
Mazu and Uncommon James, the joint 58kg topweights, are the only two horses in Saturday’s field who have more weight than I Am Me.
I Am Me is one of three Galaxy runners for Maher, who will also be represented by classy colt Growing Empire (56kg) and Estriella (54.5kg).
The latter, also a daughter of I Am Invincible, had previously been announced as Chairman’s Sale entry, alongside fellow Maher-trained mares Royal Merchant and Semana.
