Star jockeys Blake Shinn and Billy Egan faced disciplinary actions from Racing Victoria stewards for whip breaches on Oaks day.
Shinn rode the winning horse Little Mix but was found guilty of overusing the whip, with 10 strikes before the final 100 meters and a total of 15 strikes. He received an eight-meeting suspension and a $2000 fine, with the suspension starting on Sunday, November 19, and resuming on Sunday, November 26.
Egan was fined $750 and suspended for nine meetings for using the whip 17 times on runner-up Rebadge, exceeding the allowed limit. His suspension begins on Sunday, November 19, with a return to riding scheduled for Monday, November 27.
Additionally, trainer Ben Smith faced fines and disciplinary actions, including a $1000 fine for improper conduct and a $500 fine for failing to notify stewards about a diagnostic scan on his horse.
