In a recent development in the racing industry’s white powder scandal, stablehand Ruby McIntyre has been handed a three-month suspension by the Victorian Racing Tribunal (VRT) for her involvement in the incident concerning champion jockey Jamie Kah.
The tribunal, which includes Judge Bowman, Des Gleeson, and Maree Payne, has agreed to suspend one month of McIntyre’s penalty, contingent on her not committing a similar offence within the next two years.
Additionally, McIntyre faces a $750 fine, also suspended for two years. She was found guilty of conduct prejudicial to the image and welfare of racing for taking and distributing controversial footage.
Despite her not guilty plea, the VRT convicted McIntyre in December after considering character references from leading trainer Ciaron Maher among others.
McIntyre, who represented herself, admitted to a lapse in judgement but insisted it was out of character.
The suspension’s start and end dates are to be determined, while Jamie Kah was previously cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter.
