Tasmanian trainer Scott Brunton is set to appear before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on two charges related to failing to comply with stewards’ instructions during his time in Victoria. The charges stem from Brunton’s attendance at Warrnambool’s May Racing Carnival.
Both charges fall under Australian Rule 232, which pertains to the failure to follow stewards’ directions. The first charge revolves around the plating of Tsunami Sam, who was subsequently scratched late at The ‘Bool on May 4.
Stewards allege that during an initial interview on the race day, Brunton provided misleading information, stating that the horse was wearing tips in front and bare behind, and that he had personally fitted the tips. However, during a second interview on May 9, Brunton allegedly admitted to misleading the stewards in the first interview. He acknowledged that he had not fitted any tips to the horse before the race, as Tsunami Sam had been presented barefoot.
The second charge against Brunton relates to an alleged failure to attend the stewards’ room as requested by a steward after Race 6 on May 4.
