Northern Farm clinched Ruthless Dame, a Group 1 victor, for $2 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. The bidding surged from $500,000 to over $1 million quickly, attracting multiple suitors for the 2023 Sangster Stakes champion, presented by Ciaron Maher.
Shingo Hashimoto of Northern Farm, driven by missed opportunities earlier, expressed eagerness for the Tavistock offspring. “I didn’t have any luck so far (at the sale) so it’s nice to buy her,” Hashimoto said. He cited her impressive appearance and prestigious win, affirming, “We’re very excited to take her back to Japan.”
Ruthless Dame, retiring from racing, will head to Japan promptly, though her future mate among stallions like Equinox, Kitasan Black, and others remains undecided. Hashimoto’s enthusiasm for the purchase underscores Japan’s ongoing interest in Australian mares, with notables like Yankee Rose and Mosheen now residing there, alongside the likes of Yankee Rose’s progeny, such as Liberty Island, a four-time Group 1 runner-up.
