Rothfire was the impressive winner of The Run To The Rose

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after a drama charged Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill.

Jim Byrne (Rothfire): “He is the sort of horse you knew in your own mind that while he is untested up against this sort of company, it is obviously the best field he’s raced that he will get better after this.”

“He has to continually take steps forward and they are raising the bar with him every time but he is the right horse for it. His demeanour, you only have to watch how he walks around, he has never been here before but he takes it all in his stride.”

“I thought if I could set up a decent tempo that Hughie (Bowman on Farnan) may back off but that wasn’t the case. They were pretty determined to want to lead.”

“We’d been doing a lot of work with him, working him in behind runners, he was doing that as a two-year-old but he was just better than them.”

“Congratulations to Rob (Heathcote) and all of the team. I’m just glad it is his horse I’ve come down for.”

“We haven’t gone right to the edge of him yet. He missed a trial and coming into this today he’d just done a track gallop. Whilst it was sizzling, it is nothing like a trial so he will get better again.”

Tommy Berry (Ole Kirk): “Massive run. He was a little fresh in the yard today. He has had a break in between runs but is spot on for his main target the Golden Rose.”

James McDonald (North Pacific): “Super run, he’s flying the horse. He’s read to rock and roll in the Golden Rose.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Peltzer): “I was pleased with that run. It was a solidly run race again. We should have gone off with the winner at the top of the lane. He gave me a nice kick and just levelled out the last furlong so will be better for the run.”

Hugh Bowman (Farnan): “I dug him to lead. He didn’t settle as well as I would have liked in front. If I had my time again I might not have led. I think the horse performed well under the circumstances.”

Nash Rawiller (Mamaragan): “I got jammed up a bit at the start. Got back further than I would have liked. Just felt he didn’t bring me into the race as I hoped. They were running very good sectionals. Just need to be a bit patient on him. He took a little while to wind up but his last 100m was his best.”

Jason Collett (King’s Legacy): “Happy with the run. He was never really in the comfort zone at that speed. Ran through the line ok.”
