Regal Monarch has unfortunately lost a fight for his life after suffering from a fall during race 4 at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
Racing Victoria’s general manager of veterinary services, Grace Forbes, said the Chris Waller-trained Regal Monarch walked onto the transport truck.
“Regal Monarch was immediately attended to by our veterinary team after a fall in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Plate,” Forbes said in a statement.
“He was walked onto the float and has been transported to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic in Werribee for further assessment.”
Unfortunately Regal Monarch was unable to survive the ordeal and was humanely euthanised later that evening.
Champion jockey Joao Moreira was fortunate to escape serious injury during the incident but was ruled out from riding for the remainder of the card, including the ride on Thomas Hobson in the Melbourne Cup.
