A sunny day on the eve of the Doncaster Mile meeting has the Randwick track manager upbeat about the prospects of the feature race being run on a slow track.
Randwick remained a heavy (8) late on Friday but track manager Nevesh Ramdhani said no rain and warm weather had done wonders for the surface.
“It’s been a very good day. We’ve had a pretty sunny day, it’s been pretty warm and it’s done wonders for the track,” Ramdhani said.
“If we don’t get a massive dew in the morning I think there’s a good chance we’ll be getting to a slow track.
“If we don’t get to slow by the morning, during some point of the day I think we could be due for an upgrade assuming we have another day like this tomorrow.”
Randwick received 150mm of rain in two days from Tuesday with another five millimetres falling on Thursday.
Star mare More Joyous is the Doncaster favourite with a final decision on whether she lines up expected to be made on race morning.
More Joyous failed as favourite in last year’s race on a heavy track but trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident the mare can win the event regardless of the conditions she’s faced with.
The nine-race card also features the Group One Australian Oaks (2400m) and Group One Galaxy (1100m).
