Independent NSW MP Mark Latham is set to front a Racing NSW stewards’ hearing following a heated altercation with Australian Turf Club senior executive Steve McMahon.
The incident comes in the wake of Latham’s outspoken criticism of both Racing NSW and the ATC during the Rosehill parliamentary inquiry. In the immediate aftermath of the April confrontation at a Rosehill race meeting, the ATC imposed a 12-month good behaviour bond on Latham.
McMahon, who serves as the ATC’s head of corporate affairs and government relations, was directly involved in the clash. Racing NSW has since launched its own investigation into the matter, enlisting the expertise of Michael Phelan — former chief executive of the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and ex-deputy commissioner of the Australian Federal Police — to assist in the inquiry.
