Racing set to resume at Eagle Farm

It’s official!

Racing Queensland has confirmed that racing will resume at Eagle Farm on September 14.

The track had been out of commission since a meeting was abandoned there following a race fall on July 20, with jockeys taking a strong stance and refusing to ride at the city venue until their concerns relating to what they perceived as some horses shying from construction works close to the outside of the track near the top of the home straight had been addressed.

With mitigation work carried out, eight barrier trails took place at Eagle Farm this morning. One of the provisions in place was that it was mandatory for every runner in the trials to be given a sight of the construction area prior to starting in their respective trials.

The same protocol … in terms of runners being cantered past the building works in question prior to competing … will also be in place until further notice for every runner before they face the starter on race-day.

“After discussions with jockeys at the Eagle Farm trials, all felt the sighting of the building before the commencement of the trials gave their mounts a good appreciation of the building site and it was great to see the trails go off without incident,” said Queensland Jockey’s Association Glen Prentice.”

“Jockeys are now happy to resume riding (at Eagle Farm),” added Prentice.
