This year’s Queensland Derby has emerged as a rich source of Hong Kong talent, with the first three placegetters all confirmed to continue their careers overseas.
Runner-up Monopolistic and third-placed Inspired Legend will join Queensland Derby winner Providence in Hong Kong after securing deals with leading owners.
Monopolistic is set to enter the powerful John Size stable, while Inspired Legend will race for David Eustace following his purchase after the Group 1 feature at Eagle Farm in June.
The Queensland winter carnival has also produced further recruits, with the quinella from the Rough Habit Plate also heading offshore.
Kilman will continue his career under Me Tsui, while runner-up Beauty Swift has been secured for the Tony Cruz stable.
Also among the latest intake is Group 2 Stutt Stakes winner West Of Swindon, who was purchased by Pure Bloodstock for $310,000 through the Inglis Digital online auction in May.
The latest wave of imports underlines Hong Kong’s continued demand for high-quality Australian three-year-olds, particularly black-type performers from the Queensland winter carnival.
Those horses are especially appealing to Hong Kong buyers following enhancements to the lucrative Four-Year-Old Series, with the Hong Kong Jockey Club earlier this year increasing bonus payments for eligible horses competing through the series that culminates in the Hong Kong Derby.
