Young horseman Nacim Dilmi continues to make inroads for Domeland with I Am Carrot bringing up his 30th win for them courtesy of an impressive performance on the Randwick Kensington track.
Dilmi, who formerly worked for Godolphin, took over the role as private trainer for the racing and breeding operation at the start of this seasonΒ and boasts a winning strikerate of 19 per cent.
I Am Carrot helped that on Wednesday with a strong victory in the Kia Central Region Dealer Of The Year Handicap (1300m) and Dilmi is keen to give him a stakes race opportunity during the Brisbane winter.
“It’s good to get another win out of the way,” Dilmi said.
“I don’t want to step up in grade too soon, but he’ll go to Queensland after this and hopefully we can find a nice race for him like the Fred Best (Classic), or another stakes race towards the end of the Queensland carnival.
“Obviously if the field is a bit strong or he needs more time I won’t rush him into it, but so far he is doing the right things to put his hand up for Queensland.”
Ridden by Jason Collett, I Am Carrot ($4.20) finished strongest to score by three-quarters of a length over Alphard ($6) with Events ($14) in third, another length away.
Dilmi said the decision to geld I Am Carrot at the start of his three-year-old season had been key, with the horse posting three wins and two seconds in five starts since.
The Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) is at Eagle Farm on May 30.
