Emerging apprentice Jett Newman will continue her development in one of Australia’s premier racing stables after securing a three-month loan to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Tulloch Lodge operation.
The 18-year-old, currently apprenticed to Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn, will officially transfer her indentures to the leading Sydney stable following her rides at Randwick on Saturday.
Newman has quickly built an impressive reputation, riding more than 100 winners and establishing herself as one of Australia’s brightest young jockeys.
Dunn believes the timing is ideal for his apprentice to test herself at the next level.
“She’s where she needs to be now; she needs to go to a new level,’’ Dunn told the Racing NSW website.
“She’s riding lots of winners at the Gold Coast and the provincials in Queensland and we’ve purposely held her back from riding too much in the city to hold her claim for when she gets down there.
“It was always in the plan for her to go down and we were trying to work out the right place, the right stable for her to go to.
“I spoke to Adrian a few weeks ago and I think it’s the right place for her and she’ll hold her own for sure. She’s ready to go now and she’ll do a good job.”
Waterhouse and Bott are confident the placement will accelerate Newman’s progression, giving her valuable experience in Sydney’s competitive metropolitan ranks while working within one of Australia’s most successful racing operations.
