There had been speculation among racing fans as to whether Pride Of Jenni had run her last race after her final appearance during the Cup Carnival. The popular eight-year-old finished near the tail in the Group 1 Champions Mile run on a heavy 9 track at Flemington, prompting discussion about her future.
However, her trainer Ciaron Maher has moved quickly to ease concerns, confirming that the Tony Ottobre-owned mare is expected to return for the autumn.
“Jenni was absolutely awesome (this spring),” Maher told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“At this stage she will (race in autumn).
“She came through her last run, you could see very early on, she was dipping and diving and wasn’t comfortable on the ground.
“But we know she’s tough as old boots, so she’s gone back to Tony and Lynn (Ottobre’s) place.
“She’ll have a bit of rest and recovery.
“I’m sure she will be back for the autumn.”
If all goes to plan, Pride Of Jenni will return as a nine-year-old in the Autumn Racing Carnival, where she could again cross paths with fellow star mare Via Sistina.
