Juvenile Seeiaye is on notice to bring his best behaviour to the races when he makes his debut at Newcastle.
Debutant Seeiaye is the early favourite for the Max Lees Classic at Newcastle, but trainer Peter Snowden will reserve an opinion on his chances until the colt enters the mounting enclosure.
The youngster has twice trialled nicely in preparation for Saturday’s sprint, finishing runner-up at his initial hitout and taking out his latest 900m heat at Rosehill stylishly.
However, while there are no question marks over his ability, Snowden warns Seeiaye is easily distracted and his behaviour pre-race will determine how he performs.
“He can gallop,” Snowden said.
“He worked terrific on Tuesday, but he’s just got to take that quiet attitude to the races.
“If he gets there and he’s showing his anatomy off to everyone that’s not going to be good.
“If he holds it together in the mounting yard, you’ll know how he will run and if he does hold it together, he will run really well.”
A $65,000 Magic Millions purchase, Seeiaye remains a colt for now and will be among a field of 12 first starters lining up in the Max Lees Classic (900m), named in honour of the late legendary Newcastle trainer.
Lees’ son, leading local horseman Kris Lees, celebrated an emotional win 12 months ago with Gobi Desert and will be chasing back-to-back victories with fillies Farhah and Pomelo Chamomile.
