Winning first up didn’t surprise trainer Peter Snowden whatsoever, but the manner in which unbeaten filly Plaintiff did so might’ve raised an eyebrow or two.
An exceptionally bred three-year-old by Zoustar out of Group One winner Prompt Response, Plaintiff will seek to add a fifth straight win when she lines up in the Group 3 JHB Carr Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The filly was one of the wins of the day on a star-studded Day 1 of The Championships, coming from last in the run to take the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) and Snowden said she’d always shown stakes-level ability.
“It wasn’t a surprise to us,” Snowden said.
“Three starts last preparation, all in town and she won them all. We’ve always had a good opinion of her.
Plaintiff is a clear-cut favourite for the JHB Carr on Saturday at $1.90 and Snowden is confident she can remain unbeaten before perhaps looking to bigger targets in Queensland.
“I think she can go on with it,” Snowden said.
“She’s got a really good attitude, she’s got a good racing profile, she doesn’t pull, she relaxes really well and she’s got a turn of foot so she should get seven furlongs okay.
“We’ll get through Saturday and see what happens, but she’s got good ability and you can aim a bit higher with her and know she’ll be competitive.”
Having sat on pace last preparation, Snowden is confident Plaintiff has all the tools necessary to win the JHB Carr from any position, for which she’ll carry top weight of 57kg under the set weights and penalties conditions.
“She’s sat outside the leader in her first preparation at Rosehill so she’s pretty adaptable,” Snowden said
“You never get too far ahead of yourself but she’s certainly full of good potential.”
