Pat’s Got Sass has drawn wide and steps up to Listed company, but trainer David Harrison believes the hulking filly has the ability to cope with the pressure at Ascot on Saturday.
Pat’s Got Sass, who stands at 17 hands, made the perfect start to her racing career when she kicked clear to win by three lengths on debut at Ascot that saw her storm into Karrakatta Plate calculations (1200m).
Reacting quickly to her dominant win on March 10, Tabtouch slashed her price from $14 to $7 for the Karrakatta Plate and elevated her to second favouritism behind the Steve Wolfe-trained Ex Sport Man at $4.
D R Harrison’s classy juvenile tackles the Furphy-Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) from gate 15 with Kyra Yuill in the saddle.
“Her run last week was fantastic, but it’s obviously going to be harder from the barrier,” Harrison told Tabradio.
“I always knew she had a lot of ability, but they have to do it on race day. She did it impressively albeit in a not overly strong field compared to what she will meet on Saturday.
“You only can beat what you are up against, but she did it pretty well.
“It’s a bit early to say how good she is going to be, but what she has done so far is pretty special.
“She shouldn’t be really doing it being a big gangly horse.
“She shouldn’t be as balanced as she is.”
Yuill replaces Paul Harvey who couldn’t make Pat’s Got Sass’s 54kg. He instead hops aboard Pixie Chix .
The daughter of Rommel, a last-start second to Liwa in the Supremacy Stakes (1000m), was also dealt a blow after drawing barrier 14.
“She probably worked the best she has yesterday (Tuesday),” Harrison said.
“She has a sticky barrier as well, drawn out in the river.
“I’m not sure what we’re going to do with her.
“She’s come from behind and run well before, but in saying that she jumps pretty quick.
“It will all depend on how they jump, but I would think they probably both go forward.”
Meanwhile Harrison believes Media Baron is set to return to the winner’s list in the Seacorp-Grandstand Cup (1500m).
“He’s been flying home without any luck,” Harrison said.
“I think it’s time for him to step up.
“I think you will find a pretty good horse on Saturday.”
Yuill retains the ride on Media Baron.
