Outraged is back to a Benchmark 90 race over 2040m on Saturday

Trainer Kelly Schweida has a couple of big months ahead with some of his young stars but will rely on an old faithful to be in the winners’ circle at Doomben.

Schweida has sent six-year-old Outraged back to a Benchmark 90 race over 2040m on Saturday.

Outraged’s past two starts have been in open company at 2200m for a Gold Coast win followed by an unlucky fifth at Doomben two weeks ago.

Schweida had no choice but to drop Outraged back in distance because of the way the programming worked out.

“He did win at the Doomben 2000 metres four runs back and he is a horse that can hold his form when he gets to it,” Schweida said.

Ric McMahon will retain the ride and Outraged will carry his full 59kg.

“Outraged had the same weight in an open handicap so he isn’t too badly weighted and Ric knows exactly how to ride him,” Schweida said.

The stable”s top three-year-olds Cellargirl and Shogun Sun are back in work after Sydney trips with the Magic Millions carnival in their sights.

Cellargirl was third in both the Group Two Tea Rose Stakes and Group One Flight Stakes.

Shogun Sun, who won at Randwick in August, was a good fifth in the Run To the Rose before being well beaten in the Group One Golden Rose.

“For their first real trips away they both raced very well. Cellargirl was stakes placed and with a bit more luck might have even got away with a race,” Schweida said.

“I have always said Shogun Sun was six months away from being at his top.”

Schweida said he had little choice but to give the pair short lets-ups.

“You don’t get much time between carnivals these days,” he said.

“They are both back in the stables and back in work. At this stage they will be back racing in late November or early December.”
