Outback Miss has maintained her unbeaten record with a stylish win at Caulfield

If it was not for a growth on her throat, co-trainer Mick Price says Outback Miss would be headed for ‘Black Type’ company.

Outback Miss made it two wins from as many starts when she took out The McCafe Handicap (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sent out the $3.40 favourite under Blake Shinn, Outback Miss defeated Scorsese ($17) by two lengths with the early leader Malaboom ($14) a head away third.

Price, who trains in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr, said now that Outback Miss has a city win under the belt, the stable may now be able to treat the filly’s throat more aggressively.

“She’s holding her condition. It’s very wintry and we clip them, and she’s got another coat growing on her,” Price said.

“But her biggest problem is she has a growth on her throat which we’ve just been monitoring.

“If you ask if we’re going to go forward, or not, I’m not sure.

“We’ll have to scope her, and we would like to treat it more intensively now that we’ve got this out of the way.

“She’s pretty smart, smart enough to be thinking we could go into ‘Black Type’ eventually if I wasn’t worried about her throat.

“She’s a nice, sound Rubick filly, but I need a couple of weeks to treat her intensively and see if we can get that throat perfect.”

Saturday’s race was the first held at Caulfield since late last November and Price instructed Shinn to ride the filly in a forward position.

“I didn’t want to be messing around and I said to Blake to put your foot down,” Price said.

“We thought Malaboom would lead, so that was good, and she was good enough and fit enough to get away with it.

“Hopefully if we can get a good throat on her, we can win some ‘Black Type’.”

Price said to treat Outback Miss’ throat, the filly would require a course of anti-inflammatories or anti-biotics, but bypass surgery.

“It is not an operation job,” he said.
