It might have taken one more run that the stable would have liked, but Extreme Taste is set to go for Ipswich.
Barry Lockwood initially indicated that there wasn’t much to say about filly Extreme Taste “because she hasn’t won yet” but with a little more prodding, he is a lot more positive about her chances of breaking through at Ipswich on Wednesday.
A three-start maiden, Extreme Taste lines up in the Ipswich Party Hire Fillies and Mares Maiden (1200m) second-up this preparation from barrier nine after finishing third at Doomben in maiden company over 1110m on May 24.
“The only thing that will stop her is the wide gate,” Lockwood said.
“She’s ready to win but just needs a bit of luck and I think it was a bit of pilot error as the rider gave away the run to the winner.
“Going four-deep on the corner and staying there didn’t help. She did a lot of work and the wider the rail is and the wider you are, the worse it gets.”
Extreme Taste is the $2.80 favourite this time and two-kilo claiming apprentice Benjamin Osmond taking the ride with Damien Boche out injured after a recent fall at Gold Coast.
“If she gets a nice run from the barrier, she’ll be very hard to beat,” veteran trainer Lockwood added and who is enjoying the experience of being in a training partnership with Emma-Jane Vincent after that was formalised late last year.
