A trip to Wyong last weekend had to be aborted due to the bushfire situation in Victoria, but having to wait another seven days might play into Simon Zahra’s hands with Princess Que.
Flemington-based Zahra was quite looking forward to the mare starting at Wyong as he had not had a runner there before.
Instead, he has the opportunity to have his first winner at Murray Bridge in the Thomas Farms Handicap (1200m) with this four-year-old.
“We couldn’t go to Wyong because the roadblocks with the fires meant that it would have added another four hours to the trip,” Zahra said.
“This is our next option and hopefully she gets the job done.”
Princess Que has the good record of three wins and as many placings in her 10 starts so far.
With a win and a placing first-up, the mare is set and ready to feature again and occupied the second line of betting – only just – for the event at $3.20, with the Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray-trained Angel Torque at $3.10.
“She was favourite last week and it was quite a strong race,” Zahra added.
“She looked well in and goes very well fresh.”
Barrier one should also suit the frontrunning mare.
